Gardaí in Co Longford have arrested a man in connection with an aggravated burglary in Edgeworthstown.

Shortly after midday yesterday three men entered a house on Chapel Lane, assaulted a man, locked him in the toilet and made off with some items.

The injured man later managed to release himself and alert the Gardai.

He was brought to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar where he was treated for minor injuries.

In a follow-up operation Gardaí arrested a 44 year old man in the Edgeworthstown area.

He's currently being held at Granard Garda Station.

Gardaí have also recovered some of the items that were stolen.
