Katy Perry, Nick Cave, Metallica's Kirk Hammett, Tyler the Creator, Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh, Weird Al Yankovich, film composer Danny Elfman and more have all appeared on a newly released album entitled The Gay Nineties Old Tyme Music: Daisy Bell. It's an unusual line-up, but the specifics of the release are just as peculiar.

The album consists solely of different versions of a single song, with all the artists having contributed their own take on the 1892 song Daisy Bell. The song is known for its iconic lyrics 'Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer true' and the chilling rendition sung by computer HAL in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The release is part of pop artist Mark Ryden's latest exhibition The Gay 90s, which draws inspiration from 1890s culture and society. The red vinyl album is limited to 999 copies: half sold at the exhibition in LA, and half to be sold online from May 13th through Ryden's website.

Collectors and fans will face not only limited supplies, but also a high price tag of $99.99 (around €72). However, The Hollywood Reporter explains that proceeds will be donated to Little Kids Rock, a non-profit group that looks to offer musical education in disadvantaged schools.

Ryden himself is no stranger to the music world, having created album covers for artists such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Michael Jackson, as well as his most recent work on Tyler the Creator's Wolf.
