The jury has been watching CCTV footage in the trial of a man accused of putting his fist through a Monet painting valued at €10m.
Andrew Shannon of Willian’s Way, Ongar, Dublin, denies damaging the art work in the National Gallery in June 2012 and two other paintings in the Shelbourne in January of this year.
The jury hasn't been shown the original Monet painting Argenteuil Basin with a Single Sail Boat but there are two large paintings about five feet squared at the back of the court.
Felim Egan's Morning Strand and Evening Strand were allegedly damaged by Andrew Shannon in a suite of the Shelbourne Hotel on January 8th last.
CCTV footage of the accused walking with a younger man in the corridors of the hotel that evening has been shown to the jury.
John McLoughlin, a banqueting supervisor on duty, said two men walked by him about an hour before he noticed white threads hanging down the blue canvas of one of the paintings.
He agreed the rooms were kept in use after the art works were damaged leading the defence to argue that there had been no attempt to keep the suite as a crime scene.
