Joe O'Reilly is serving life for the murder of his wife Rachel who was bludgeoned to death at their home in the Naul in North Dublin in 2004.
The 42-year-old gave several interviews to the media in the wake of her death and even appeared on the Late Late Show.
He's always maintained he's innocent of his wife's murder. He was convicted by a jury in 2007 and later lost an appeal.
He's now trying to have his conviction declared a miscarriage of justice on the basis that part of the book of evidence was left in the jury room during his trial.
The DPP is trying to shut down this latest attempt to clear his name – they say he's raised no new points.
The Court of Appeal will decide today whether it can proceed.
