We had blue skies earlier this week and thousands of overseas visitors thronging the streets of Dublin to celebrate St Patrick’s Day - signaling the start of what is tipped to be another buoyant tourism season in our capital city.

Happy Days you would think - but the Chief Executive of Fáilte Ireland believes that the city’s tourism product may have gone a bit stale, when compared with other European cities.

The Grow Dublin Tourism Alliance has been established to help to create a plan to freshen-up the city's offering.

Businessman, Michael Carey, chairman of the committee joined Breakfast Business today - he is worried about the image that Dublin has been projecting:

"Dublin is a great city but the image is a bit dull - it's a bit dusty," he warned that it is struggling to remain "relevant."

Speaking to business editor, Vincent Wall, Mr Carey said that the city's offering for tourists is already strong - but the qualities that make it attractive are not always communicated effectively - and this limits the city's potential to attract tourists.

He hopes that public bodies and private businesses can come together to work on improving the tourist experience that Dublin offers.

Mr Carey believes that there are untapped resources in the city - particularly open air attractions away from the city center.
