Irish people doing their Christmas food shop in Marks and Spencer are set to pay up to 39% more than their UK counterparts.
The British retailer is hiking up the prices on groceries like turkeys, mince pies and trifles in Irish shops.
Prices quoted in the company’s Christmas food catalogue reveal that - based on current exchange rates - Irish customers are being charged significantly higher prices across the majority of food categories.
According to The Irish Times, customers in Ireland are being asked to pay between 25% and 39% more for a range of traditional Christmas foods.
A Christmas turkey is approximately 30% more expensive, a sirloin steak costs 28% more – while mince pies are 34% more expensive.
A spokesperson for the company has suggested the higher cost of doing business in Ireland is behind the differences in price.
