Irish rugby legend Willie John McBride has been recognised in the UK’s New Year's Honours List for his role in the Lions successful 1974 tour of South Africa.
The 78-year-old is set to receive a CBE (Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) from Britain’s Queen Elizabeth.
Mr McBride has spent recent years involved in charities for disabled and disadvantaged children.
Willie has told the Press Association he's thrilled to be recognised.
“1974 would certainly be my, as they nowadays, my Everest,” he said. “To captain the Lions and to go unbeaten.”
“I would like to think that this honour is shared with all the guys who were on that tour, because they really were outstanding.
“They made my job as captain very easy.”

Meanwhile, Michael Palin has become the first member of the Monty Python comedy group to receive a knighthood.
The 75-year-old comedian, actor and documentary maker will be recognised for recognised for services to travel, culture and geography.
A total of 1,148 people are set to be honoured. 544 of them are women, making up 47% of the total.
Among the honourees are 60s model Twiggy, actress Thandie Newton, England manager Gareth Southgate and striker Harry Kane.
