A full investigation has been launched and gardaí are following a definite line of inquiry.

Meanwhile a woman aged in her late 20s is also being treated in hospital after her phone was stolen and she was assaulted on the South Mall at 5:30am this morning.

The woman, who is a foreign national, did not receive life threatening injuries and gardaí have ruled out any sexual motive in the attack.

Gardaí believe one person was involved in the assault - however no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
