The Irish Prison Service is investigating the death of an inmate at Mountjoy Prison in Dublin.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene after the discovery of a man's body at around 7:30am yesterday morning.

The prisoner was aged in his 40s.

The Coroner's Office will determine a cause of death.

Next of kin have been notified.
