A group of Independent TDs say they have had a "constructive" meeting with acting Taoiseach Enda Kenny about the prospect of forming a government.

The group comprises of Denis Naughten, Mattie McGrath, Noel Grealish, Michael Harty, and Michael Collins.

Mr Kenny is planning to hold a round-table meeting with Independents and the Green Party tomorrow, hoping to secure a second term in office.

The 32nd Dáil met for the second time yesterday, and adjourned without progress until April 6th.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Naughton told Newstalk Lunchtime the talks are still in the initial stages.

While speaking earlier before the talks, Tipperary-South TD Mattie McGrath said rural communities would not be forgotten by the next government.

He told Newstalk Breakfast he would be asking Mr Kenny for a fair share for rural Ireland in any new government that is likely to be formed.

While Fianna Fáil says it would welcome an approach from Fine Gael on talks to form a new government.

There are no official talks planned between the parties with the largest number of seats - Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil.

Limerick Fianna Fail TD Willie O'Dea says there has been no approach from Mr Kenny's team so far.
