Independent TD Sean Conlan has been remanded on bail, after appearing in court in connection with an alleged assault in his family pub in Co Monaghan in August.

He is due to appear before court again on 27th January.

Cavan Monaghan TD Sean Conlan, who recently resigned from Fine Gael, faces charges of assault causing harm and the production of an article during a dispute on 23rd August in his family pub in Ballybay.

The court heard a man needed stitches in his arm after being "glassed".

Deputy Conlan was arrested by arrangement this morning and appeared at Carrickmacross District Court.

Sean Conlan was released on bail on his own bond of €100, to appear in court again on 27th January.

Mr Conlon resigned from Fine Gael earlier this month, posting a statement on his Twitter account to say that he was leaving over the issue of the North South Interconnector.
