The Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee says it's unlikely Ibrahim Halawa will be released before his case goes to trial in Egypt.
Pat Breen met with the 19-year-old in jail yesterday and says Ibrahim is in reasonable spirits.
The 19-year-old was arrested in Cairo two years ago and has had his trial date delayed a number of times.
There have been calls for the Irish Government to put more pressure on Egypt to release the teenager.
His trial was postponed for the ninth time last month until October.
He has been imprisoned since his arrest in August of 2013 during protests in Cairo against the toppling of former Egyptian president, Mohammed Morsi.
