Human remains have been discovered during Luas works outside Trinity College in Dublin this afternoon.

The bones are thought to date back to Medieval times.

The historic bones were discovered 1.5 metres deep beside the city campus.

Archaeologists have been called in and the scene has been cordoned off.

The work could take a number of days.

The Luas Cross-City project is linking the two existing Green and Red tram lines, which begin at Connolly Station on the north-side and at Stephen's Green on the south-side of the capital.

The new line is expected to be finished in 2017. Works have been on-going in the College Green area since early June.
