Police have confirmed that human remains were found in a car recovered from Lough Erne earlier this week.

The car was located by police divers as part of the investigation in the disappearance of Michel ‘Tony’ Lynch from County Monaghan 18 years ago.

Gardaí marked the 18th aniversary of his disappearance by appealing for information on the location of his car and on Monday, members of the public spotted something in the water in Lough Erne, County Fermanagh.

Gardaí liaised with the PSNI to carry out an underwater search of the lake and found a submerged car.

The car has now been sent for a forensic examination; however, investigators believe it to be Mr Lynch’s Mitsubishi.

The PSNI said it is liaising with Gardaí who have been investigating the disappearance.

Mr Lynch’s family have been informed of the discovery.

Mr Lynch was 55-years-old when he went missing and was originally from Magheraveely in County Fermanagh.
