The owners of a pub, apartment and takeaway are raffling them off to help a cancer support service - and start a new life.

The cost of this, plus €17,500 in cash, is a €23 raffle ticket.

Sinead Cody is co-owner of Spinner's Bar in Lower Kilmacow, about 15 minutes from Waterford City.

She told Newstalk Breakfast a recent health scare made them look at their lives closely.

"The main reason why we made this decision, I suppose, was down to our second chance at health and life really.

"My partner Seamus was diagnosed with cancer in early 2020 - so faced with that and various other obstacles - we decided that life is for living.

"So in a bid to raise some major funds for the Solas Cancer Support Centre, we decided to put all our eggs in one basket and put the pub essentially up for raffle".

She added that 10% of the ticket sales will go to the support centre.

She said this will "hopefully will make over €93,000" for the centre, "while a lucky winner will get the pub, chipper, apartment and €17,500 cash as well".

Sinead said she thinks many people will be re-assessing their lives after lockdown.

"We think it's a great idea, obviously... but it's just over the past year, everyone has struggled with the various ups and downs of lockdown life.

"And I think most people will reassess their situation and say that life is for living.

"We're in a lucky position we can say 'Right - we're going to start a new chapter in our life', but we're also going to give someone else a chance to start a new chapter in theirs for just €23".

On the Raffall competition website, they say: "We have been lucky ourselves to have had the chance to own these businesses for over six years, and I can say we will be handing over the reins with very fond memories that these were some of the best years for us - as well as the gang full of friends we're lucky to have made along the way.

"For us, though, now is the time to begin the next chapter and bid farewell to the pub and fast-food business that we have built and pass it onto one lucky winner."
