A horse thought to have been burned alive by children in Tallaght in Dublin yesterday was already dead.

A garda spokesperson said they are satisfied that the animal was already dead when it was doused in petrol and set alight.

Five other horses which were also in the vicinity yesterday were moved to safety.

An investigation into the matter is on-going.

The gardaí are also appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
