Some homeless families who took over a house in Dublin have promised to leave before the end of the day.

The home in Hansfield, near Ongar, was occupied by the group on Saturday.

Up to 30 people, including Socialist TD Ruth Coppinger, took over the property during a public viewing.

Hansfield Investments applied for an injunction to have them removed after they failed to comply with a court order to vacate the building.

Deputy Coppinger said they took over the house to highlight the need for social and affordable housing but felt they had "carried this protest as far as they could".

Danielle Adderley, one of those who took part in the occupation, said she did it because: "I actually took part in this because I can't wait no more, and neither can my family."

Ms. Adderley told Newstalk.com yesterday that she does not have a place to stay at the moment: "I'm between friends and family at the moment because all the hotels are all booked up."
