The jury in the trial of the police officer who served as match commander on the day of the Hillsborough disaster has failed to reach a verdict.

74-year-old retired South Yorkshire Police Chief Superintendent David Duckenfield was accused the gross negligence manslaughter of 95 Liverpool fans at the 1989 FA Cup semi-final.

He denied all the charges.

At Preston Crown Court on Monday, Judge Peter Openshaw told the jusry he would accept a majority verdict – provided at least 10 were in agreement.

He told them there was no time pressure, but said that if they found themselves in position where there was "no possibility" of agreeing on a verdict, they must let him know.

The jury was discharged this morning after failing to reach a verdict.

Prosecutors in the case have said they would seek a retrial.

Former Sheffield Wednesday club secretary Graham Mackrell, 69, was today found guilty of failing to discharge his duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
