Gardaí are investigating after a man brandishing a knife tried to hijack a woman’s car in Cork.

It happened in Douglas at around 11:10pm last night.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was stopped at traffic lights when a man threatened her with a knife and ordered her to get out of the car.

Investigators said they believe he was startled when the lights turned green and fled on foot towards Willow Park.

A Dog Unit was sent out to search for him and a Garda Dog Lazar found him hiding in a ditch.

The man in his 20s was arrested by Gardaí “after a struggle.”

He is being held at Togher Garda Station.
