Hazelhatch and Celbridge named best train station in Ireland

Hazelhatch and Celbridge in Co Kildare has been named overall best train station in Ireland. The staff at the station were commended for their hard work and commitment to customers.

Irish Rail says the station plays a key role in the commuter town of Celbridge and the surrounding area.

The station was also significantly upgraded as part of the Kildare Route Project.

David Franks, chief executive of Iarnród Éireann said: "Winning the title of Best Station in Ireland is a high honour and I congratulate Patricia Bermingham and Joe Brophy who work so hard to give our customers a positive experience as they pass through the station every day."

"Our customers are the most important part of our business so it is fitting that they should choose the winner of the Best Station Awards," he added.

The winners are chosen by public vote, with almost 15,000 customers rating their stations as part of this year's awards - by customer information, station appearance, staff helpfulness and staff appearance.

Other best station awards were given out to Mullingar, Killarney and Westport.

The Best DART station for 2014 was Malahide station, with a special award presented to Seapoint DART station for best customer service.
