It’s possible that we’ve reached peak GIF when an artist is selling a GIF file – the kind of repetitious animated image file you can’t quite figure out how to embed into a tweet properly – for $2000 on eBay.
Well that’s exactly what artist Michael Green is attempting to do with the following:
(Source:eBay)
Green’s GIF is an allusion to sculptor Jeff Koons’ iconic Balloon Dog, which became the most expensive work ever sold by a living artist when it went for €45m at an auction in Christie’s last year.
Green is digitally bursting Koons and the art world’s bubble with his deflating GIF version, found on his Tumblr account, which lampoons the commercialism of the contemporary art scene.
But those hoping to take part in the project will need to fork over thousands of euro for the GIF, which comes on a USB-stick, and with a certificate of authenticity.
That said, be warned: any Irish buyers putting in a bid should be aware that you’ll have to pay more than €30 for postage and packing - swindle or what?!
The auction ends on September 8th.
