Happiness for everyone on the planet remains one of the key objectives of the United Nations, the organisation’s secretary general Ban Ki-moon has said, when he launched a number of global celebrations to mark the International Day of Happiness.

 “Peace, prosperity, lives of dignity for all – this is what we seek. We want all men, women and children to enjoy all their human rights. We want all countries to know the pleasure of peace,” the Secretary-General said in his message for the Day.

“We want people and planet alike to be blessed with sustainable development, and to be spared the catastrophic impacts of climate change.”

To celebrate the day, Mr Ban and the global music-streaming service MixRadio created the #HappySoundsLike playlist, requesting the global population “nominate a song that brings a smile to your face.”

A number of global celebrities have also gotten involved in the project, and have selected the song that most makes them feel joy; the UN secretary general chose Signed, Sealed, Delivered by Stevie Wonder, while actor Michael Douglas settled on the Disney classic Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah. Former X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger nominated Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds, while Britney Spears and James Blunt picked Kiss by Prince and Fun.’s We Are Young respectively.
