Graham Dwyer has received a life sentence for the murder of Dublin childcare worker Elaine O'Hara.

The architect with an address at Kerrymount Close, Foxrock was convicted at the Central Criminal Court last month.

Sentencing got underway at the Central Criminal Court at 2pm.

In some ways, the hearing today was merely a formality because there is only one sentence Mr Justice Tony Hunt can impose on Dwyer for murder and that is life in prison.

However it did have one very important function - it gave Elaine O'Hara's family an opportunity to submit a victim impact statement to the court.

A victim impact report prepared by her father, Frank, was read out by the prosecution at the hearing.

In the statement, the family stated: "We have lost a daughter, a sister and a friend in the most brutal traumatic and horrifying manner."

"This trial has been an incredibly difficult experience... some of the reporting in the print media was insulting to Elaine."

"This is our life sentence. For us, there is no parole."

After the statement, Mr Justice Tony Hunt said, "how profound their ordeal must have been. My heart went out to them... and still does".

Mr Hunt also thanked the gardaí and jury for their work.

Jailing the architect for life, Mr Justice Tony Hunt described him as a 'very dangerous man' and said the sentence was one he 'richly deserves'.

Mr Dwyer of Kerrymount Close, Foxrock showed no emotion during the hearing which lasted over an hour. He maintains his innocence.

Childcare worker Elaine O'Hara (36) was stabbed to death by Graham Dwyer at Killakee Mountain on August 22nd 2012 for his sexual gratification.
