The Government is considering a proposal to allow couples share one full year paid parental leave.
Under a new childcare reform package parents could choose to split the 12-month leave.
The changes are based on the latest Government research which suggests it's in a child's best interest to spend the first year of its life at home in the care of its parents.

It's also hoped the move would encourage female participation in the workplace.
