Four Irish stars have received nominations for this year's Golden Globes - as well as a contender for Best Motion Picture.

Irish writer Emma Donoghue was nominated for 'ROOM', while actress Saoirse Ronan is up for her portrayal in 'Brooklyn'.

Actor Michael Fassbender is nominated for the title role in 'Steve Jobs', for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Drama.

Irish film 'ROOM' is also nominated for Best Motion Picture Drama, and American actress Brie Larson is up for her role in the film.

Irish actress Caitriona Balfe is nominated for her role as Claire Beauchamp in 'Outlander' in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series Drama category.

Angela Bassett, America Ferrera, Chloë Grace Moretz and Dennis Quaid were on hand to announce the nominees for the 73rd annual awards in Los Angeles earlier.

A ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California.

'ROOM' is based on the best-selling novel by Emma Donoghue:

The Arts Minister has congratulated the nominees and said it has been "a superb awards season for Irish film."

“I am delighted to see so many Irish actors and filmmakers nominated for the Golden Globes," Heather Humphreys said.

“The Irish film industry boasts some incredible talent and it is great to see this recognised internationally. Ireland has developed a very strong reputation as a film location in recent years and every time an Irish actor or filmmaker wins an international award, it gives the entire sector here a boost.

"I would like to congratulate all of the Irish Golden Globe nominees and wish them the very best for awards night," she added.

British actress Maggie Smith has been nominated for her starring role in 'The Lady In The Van', while Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren have also been shortlisted for best supporting actress in a drama.

Actor Denzel Washington is to receive this year's Cecil B DeMille Award.

The awards take place on Sunday January 10th, hosted by comedian Ricky Gervais.
