An 11-year-old girl has been airlifted to hospital after she was hit by a car in County Limerick this evening.

Gardaí said the girl was hit while she was out walking on the N25 at Pallasgreen at 5:30pm.

She was airlifted to Cork University Hospital where her condition is understood to be serious.

The road was closed for a time while Gardai carried out an examination of the crash site; however, it has since reopened.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who may have video footage from the area at the time of the collision, to contact them.
