The Sinn Féin President, Gerry Adams, has hit out at other political parties for not condemning a bomb alert on his home and other attacks on Sinn Féin representatives, saying the silence "was deafening".

A warning was phoned to his Belfast home this morning, leading to a massive police operation.

In other incidents there was a paint bomb attack on deputy first minister Martin mcGuinness' home and the burning of a car belonging to a party activist.

This afternoon, Mr Adams says so called dissidents are to blame who are "focussed stupidly on the British general election".

"The point is that this runs against popular opinion, not least in the republican heartlands where these attacks have taken place. They’re cowardly," Mr Adams said.

"The silence from the government here and the Fianna Fail leader was deafening. Was this an attack on any other party Sinn Féin would be out there shoulder to shoulder with whoever the targets were,” he added.

Earlier today Mr Adams said: "In recent weeks there has been a concerted series of threats and attacks on the homes of Sinn Féin members."

“There can be no place for these type of actions nor will they deter Sinn Fein from working to advance the peace process and advance our political objectives."

"Sinn Féin will not be intimidated," he added.

He has also tweeted thanks to his supporters, while attacking the opposition:
