A man has died in a county Mayo crash.

The 35-year-old died when his car left the road on the near Cloonfad and entered the Dalgan River at about eight o'clock this morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has since been removed to Mayo University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The road remains closed to traffic and local diversions are in place.
