A garda has been treated in hospital after being hurt while on duty in Cork last night.

The sergeant was injured when he was transporting a patient in his 20s to the Mercy University Hospital at around a 6:15am.

The garda is based at Gurranabraher station. He was also treated at the hospital.

But he has since been discharged.
