Gardai say they are continuing their investigation into international criminal gangs targeting Ireland.

Three people, who have identified themselves as Romanians, remain in custody after being charged in connection with the theft of high voltage power lines in Co Kildare.

140 kilometres of copper conductor wire has been stolen from the ESB since 2012.

The utility company says it is not only extremely dangerous, but can leave thousands of people without power.

Repairs so far have cost €27m.

Assistant Garda Commissioner, Derek Byrne, says gardaí are treating this very seriously.
