Cannabis plants worth an estimated €42,000 - pending analysis - have been seized by gardaí in County Mayo.

The discovery, which is part of an ongoing intelligence led operation, follows the planned search of a house in Ballina yesterday.

A man - in his late 40s - was arrested at the scene and taken to Ballina Garda station.

He was released without charge last night and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
