Gardaí are reportedly investigating whether a female associate of a gangland figure ordered the fatal hit on Gerard Kavanagh in Spain at the weekend.

The Herald is reporting this morning that a hit may have been made by Christopher Russell on 45 year old Kavanagh who died after he was shot multiple times in a pub near Marbella on Saturday. Kavanagh had convictions for drug dealing.

Interpol and Gardai are investigating the shooting and two suspects, believed to have been wearing balaclavas, are thought to have fled the scene in a BMW which was found burnt out a short time later.

The investigating police are still trying to identify a motive for the killing.
