Gardai in Co Kildare are investigating the alleged false imprisonment and assault of two women in Newbridge.

It is understood the incident happened at Francis Lane in the town some time between 9 o'clock on Thursday night and 2 pm on Friday afternoon.

The women - who are 19 and 21 - received non life threatening injuries during the incident.

They received a lift on Friday afternoon from a man driving an orange car in Newbridge to Tallaght Hospital.

The scene was preserved and technically examined.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
