Today

Dry and bright at first but rain will spread southeastwards across the country this afternoon and evening, turning heavy in western counties later.

Southwesterly winds will strengthen steadily reaching mean speeds of 45 to 65 km/h, gusting 90 to 100 km/h this afternoon.

There is a status yellow wind Warning in place for Ireland

Southwesterly winds of 45 km/h to 65 km/h with gusts up to 100 km/h on Friday and Saturday. Winds will peak on Friday evening and night with potential for stronger winds for a time in northwestern coastal counties.

Very wet and windy conditions will persist countrywide tonight.

Prolonged spells of heavy rain in the western half of the country especially will lead to flooding there. Southwesterly winds will remain as strong as they were during the daytime, if not stronger in some places.
