It could soon become illegal to hire skinny supermodels in France.
The French Health Minister Marisol Touraine is asking the government to support a bill which would enforce regular weight checks and fitness tests.
It's aimed at preventing eating disorders and the promotion of a thin body image. Fines of up to €75,00 could be levied, as well as prison sentences.
“It’s important for fashion models to say that they need to eat well and take care of their health, especially for young women who look to the models as an aesthetic ideal,” Touraine told BFM TV.
French Journalist based in Paris, Chine Labbé (PRON Sheen Leh-bay), says prison sentences could also be handed down for hiring skinny models:
