A housing agency has rejected claims it has stopped elderly residents in a housing scheme from putting double beds in their newly-refurbished flats for religious or moral reasons.

Residents at Fr Scully House have been complaining that they have been stopped from replacing the single beds they were given with double beds at their own expense.

The €17m redeveloped complex is near Mountjoy Square in north inner-city Dublin.

However, the agency CHAS says the entire story has been blown out of proportion.

It says there are storage issue on site and they will be able to accommodate all requests in due course.

Our reporter Helen Vaughan went to Fr Scully House and spoke to some of the neighbours.

Steve Rawson is spokesperson for the housing agency. He says the entire story has been blown out of proportion.
