A jury has heard how a gang held the family of a Securior worker hostage in the Dublin Mountains in order to steal over €2 million.

Four men have gone on trial accused of the so-called tiger kidnapping in 2005.

On a Sunday evening in March 2005, three men dressed in boiler suits burst into the Dublin home of Paul Richardson in Raheny.

They showed his wife a box of guns before taking her and their two sons away in the back of a jeep.

The gang ordered Mr. Richardson to await their instructions and he went to work the next morning where, as normal, his Securior van was loaded with cash.

He showed his two colleagues a picture of his family with guns to their heads and, as instructed, dropped almost €2.3 million at a pub car park in Strawberry Beds.

His family spent the night tied up in the Dublin Mountains but managed to raise the alarm after using a penknife to break free.

Four men have been charged with the tiger kidnapping.

Jason Kavanagh of Corduff Avenue, Blanchardstown, Christopher Corcoran of Bayside Boulevard North, Sutton, Mark Farilly of Moatview Court, Priorswood, Coolock, and Alan Costello of Cromcastle Road, Coolock pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to five charges each.

The trial is due to take up to 3 months.
