Former Anglo executive Willie McAteer arrested and charged

The Former Finance Director of Anglo Irish Bank, Willie McAteer, has been charged in connection with an alleged conspiracy to transfer over 7 billion Euro in a bid to inflate Anglo's deposits and mislead the bankÂ’s investors.

Mr McAteer is the fourth former Anglo employee to be accused of inflating deposits at the bank.

He was arrested in front of the Bridewell garda Station in Dublin City Centre this morning.

The 62 year old with an address in Tipperary town was brought before the District Court to face two charges.

The first, that he allegedly conspired to inflate Anglo deposits in order to mislead investors in the bank.

Three other former Anglo employees are facing the same charge - 50 year old John Bowe from Glasnevin in Dublin, who was head of capital markets at Anglo; 54 year old Denis Casey from Raheny in Dublin, who was chief executive of Irish Life and Permanent and 61 year old Peter Fitzpatrick from Malahide in Dublin who was the former director of Finance at Irish Life and Permanent.

Mr McActeer is facing a second charge that he allegedly falsified accounts contrary to the Theft and Fraud Act.

He was remanded on bail to appear before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on July the 11th.
