The homelessness charity Focus Ireland has launched its Christmas appeal, by parking a poster van outside Government Buildings this morning.
Newly released figures indicate that 72 families became homeless in Ireland in the month of October alone.
On Friday, it was revealed that the number of children who are homeless in Dublin doubled in the last year - to more than 1,400.
In total, there are 677 families in emergency accommodation. The figures marked a 110% increase for children and 120% for families compared to October 2014.
The Dublin Simon Community said the number is 'totally unacceptable', and added that recent rent certainty measures "fail to address the gravity and scale of the homeless and housing crisis that surrounds us".
