Disagreement is emerging between Fine Gael TDs over whether or not water charges should be reimbursed.

The party has agreed a three budget deal with Fianna Fáil and is expected to take office as a minority government this week.

As part of the deal water charges are being suspended and there are calls within Fine Gael for the fees to be reimbursed to those who paid.

However the party's Regina Doherty doesn't agree. When asked whether people who paid the charges should be reimbursed she said:

“My mindset is completely about reintroducing the suspended charges. The answer to that for me would be no, because they are law abiding citizens if they abided the law and those people who didn't will be pursued.

“I'm not in the frame that they are gone. I'm in the frame of mind that they will be back within 12-18 months."

A vote will be held on Wednesday to elect a Taoiseach. A formal meeting between Fine Gael and the Independent Alliance will happen tomorrow as Enda Kenny seeks the support he needs to secure the office.
