New figures show that a number of traditional names are no longer as popular as they used to be for babies born recently.

The list of 20 names shows those which are declining most rapidly in the United Kingdom, with a number of names such as Angela, Derek, Elaine and Roy seeing a fall in usage.

BabyCentre, the family website who conducted the research, consulted the UK's birth records to put together a list of which names are popular and which are declining in popularity among parents.

Speaking about the lists, Managing Editor Sarah Redshaw said that they put together a list of popular names, and then comparing them to the names that had been registered recently, saying "some names rise in popularity, others fall out of fashion. The question is will they die out completely, or experience a revival in the future".

The site have also predicted what will be the most popular names of this year, with Marni, Hettie and Effie set to do well for girls, and Devon, Aspen and Hector setting the trend for boys.
