Enda Kenny has again refused to say whether he was recalled to give further evidence to the Fennelly Commission.

The Taoiseach previously claimed he was advised not to discuss whether or not he was recalled by the inquiry.

According to newspaper reports at the weekend, the Commission denies giving that advice.

But the Taoiseach is still refusing to say whether he was recalled over the circumstances surrounding the departure of former Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan:

Fianna Fáil is still demanding the Taoiseach be upfront about the circumstances surrounding to the departure of Mr Callinan and his engagement with the Commission.

Speaking in Tipperary earlier, Environment Minister Alan Kelly says he is happy with the Taoiseach's explanation and does not expect the Commission's report will see the downfall of the government.

And speaking to Newstalk Lunchtime, Mr Kelly said he has no reason to doubt the Taoiseach's version of events.

Meanwhile the Tánaiste says she wants the report to be published as soon as possible.

But Joan Burton has lashed out at opposition parties for trying to politicise the independent inquiry into the matter.

Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin have accused the Taoiseach of misleading the public, by claiming it would be illegal to say if he was recalled to give further evidence.

Ms Burton wants the report as soon as possible - and says the opposition should not try to distract the judge responsible.
