Fáilte Ireland is expected to publish updated guidelines for pubs and restaurants today.

Officials are due to meet again this morning to iron out issues with the new rules set down by Government yesterday afternoon.

The Taoiseach yesterday confirmed that opening hours can return to normal at pubs and restaurants; however, bar service will remain banned until February.

Nightclubs can reopen from Friday, but people will be asked to wear masks "except when eating, drinking and dancing."

Asked whether clubs will need to enforce social distancing, Micheál Martin said that still needed to be “ironed out and worked out in considerable detail.”

While people will be permitted to dance and stand during live performances in nightclubs, other live music performances must be fully seated.

The Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has hinted that the disparity could be addressed over time.

Last night the Department of Arts and Culture admitted there were “some clarifications and anomalies which need to be worked through.”

It said officials would be engaging with the Department of An Taoiseach and industry stakeholders “over the coming hours and days to find resolutions to any issues which may arise.”

The Restaurants Association of Ireland said it had yet to be consulted.

“It’s vital that industry experts are in the room with Government officials in order for a practical and viable approach to the next phase of reopening under public health advice,” it said.

Meanwhile Failte Ireland said its guidelines would be updated over the next 24 hours.
