Health support staff strike postponed

Support staff have postponed their planned strike action at hospitals and healthcare facilities around the country tomorrow.

SIPTU said the action has been deferred to allow for emergency talks at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC).

The union's Health Divisional Organiser, Paul Bell, said: “The strike action scheduled for tomorrow is now deferred at the request of the Workplace Relations Commission.

The WRC talks will focus on the "implementation of the job evaluation scheme" and will get underway tomorrow.

Man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter over Emiliano Sala death

A man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter over the death of footballer Emiliano Sala.

Dorset Police said the 64-year-old from North Yorkshire was arrested and released under investigation.

Detective Inspector Simon Huxter the man is assisting police with their inquiries.

He said the man’s identity would not be revealed unless he is charged to appear in court.

Four men to face nearly 300 murder charges over downing of MH17

Four men are to face nearly 300 charges of murder in connection with the downing of the MH17 passenger plane over Ukraine in 2014.

The charges are based on evidence collected by the international Joint Investigation Team (JIT) - consisting of law enforcement agencies from five countries.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 crashed in the Donetsk region of Ukraine on July 17th 2014 killing all 298 passengers and crew on board.

The JIT concluded in September 2016 that it had been shot down by a Soviet-developed surface-to-air missile system known as the BUK TELAR.

Government to consider new age restrictions for pornography

The Taoiseach has said the Government will be examining how easy it is for children to access pornography.

It comes in the wake of the Ana Kriegel murder trial.

Pornography was found on the mobile phones of Boy A, who was yesterday convicted of murder and aggravated sexual assault.

The two 14-year-old boys involved will be sentenced on July 15th.

Rory Stewart eliminated from race to become next UK Prime Minister

Conservative MP Rory Stewart has been eliminated from the race to become the next British Prime Minister.

The international development secretary began the campaign as a rank outsider; however, he made significant gains in previous votes.

A supporter of the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement, his elimination means that all the remaining candidates have suggested they will attempt to re-open negotiations with Brussels.

Four candidates now remain in the race – Former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, current Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, Environment Secretary Michal Gove and Home Secretary Sajid Javid.
