The man who killed journalist Eugene Moloney is due to be sentenced today.

22-year-old Gary Burch of Kennington Close, Templeogue in Dublin has pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to a charge of manslaughter.

Eugene Moloney was attacked on Camden Street while walking home in the early hours of Sunday morning June 24th last year.

The 55-year-old received a blow to the head and was brought to St James’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Three days later, trainee mechanic Gary Burch was charged with killing the Donegal born journalist – who had worked for years with Independent newspapers.

Burch has no previous convictions and has admitted manslaughter.
