Enoch Burke will have to wait for a decision on whether the disciplinary process that led to him being dismissed from Wilson’s Hospital School was all above board.

His four-day hearing concluded before the High Court today with a decision to be delivered at a later date.

There was no sign of Mr Burke when the case was called again this morning but his presence was soon felt, albeit remotely, when a “big, long email” from him to Mr Justice Alex Owens landed in the registrar’s inbox.

The judge read it aloud.

In it, Enoch accused him of denying him his right to a fair trial.

Mr Justice Owens denied that was the case. He stood over his decision to deny Enoch entry to the courtroom unless he agreed to abide by the rules and directions of the court.

Enoch arrived outside the courthouse this afternoon.

At the request of the judge, a garda told him he was welcome to come in if he purged his contempt. He refused to do so.

In his absence, lawyers for the school delivered their closing remarks, pointing out their arguments as to why his suspension and subsequent dismissal for gross misconduct was all above board.

The judge said he wouldn’t delay in delivering his judgement.
