Public transport services are returning to normal after last night’s violence on the streets of Dublin.

Dublin Bus said all services are operating; however, they cannot serve Parnell Street, Parnell Square, and O’Connell Street, with diversions via Gardiner Street and Church Street.

The company is advising customers to expect delays and disruption and to check their website and social media channels for updates.

The National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) last night advised all members to pull all buses out of service and return to their garages.

Violence

NBRU General Secretary Dermot O'Leary told Newstalk that those behind the violence should "go back into the drains" – noting that one incident in particular infuriated him.

“There was a Dublin Bus driver on one of the buses on O’Connell Street that was physically pulled from that bus and was punched and dragged off that bus before that bus was set alight,” he said.

“The only crime he committed was that he was not white.”

Meanwhile, the Luas Red Line is operating between Tallaght/Saggart and Smithfield only – with no service between Smithfield and Connolly/The Point.

The Luas Green line is operating between Brides Glen to St. Stephen’s Green only – with no service between Stephen's Green and Broombridge.

Luas tickets will be valid on Dublin Bus throughout the disruption.

Irish Rail has said all trains are operating on all routes this morning – with a full timetable of services scheduled.

Public transport was severely impacted last night as violence took hold in the city – with two buses and a Luas tram set on fire during the riots.

Luas operator Transdev said there was also "significant damage" caused to the overhead power Lines on O'Connell Street.
