Two men have been arrested in Dublin as part of a garda investigation into burglary and theft in the south east.

The men, aged 38 and 29, were detained on Saturday April 29th at Dublin Port after two vehicles were intercepted at Dublin Port shortly after 7.30pm.

The vehicles, one of which was stolen, had arrived from the UK.

Gardaí attached to the South Eastern region, the Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau and the Special Crime Task Force discovered a large quantity of stolen industrial power tools and gardening machinery in the search.

The two men were arrested for the handling of stolen property, the value of which is estimated at over €50,000.

They were detained at Irishtown garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The pair were subsequently charged in relation to handling offences, and are due to appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice on Monday.

Gardaí say investigations are on-going in conjunction with the UK authorities to identify all the owners of the property seized, which they say was destined for the Irish black market.
