Dublin has been named the cheapest location for a cultural city break.

Researchers found tickets for six attractions - a museum, art gallery, ballet, classical concert, heritage attraction and a seat at the opera - for just over €104 (£76).

That's at least €20 less than Budapest and Lisbon, which came second and third in the survey of 17 'cultural capitals', and less than half the price of 10 competitors.

London was Europe's most expensive city for culture in the UK Post Office Travel Money report, with similar tickets coming in at €395.

Paris was also highlighted as a particularly expensive city for culture, although prices in both London and Paris are said to be far lower than New York, where the price would reach more than €675.

The Dublin attractions included in the survey included the National Museum, National Gallery and Trinity College.

The report also found that visiting all six cultural highlights in Dublin would cost less than one ticket in London for The Barber of Seville (around €158 at London Coliseum) or Romeo & Juliet (also €158 at the Royal Opera House).

Andrew Brown of Post Office Travel Money said, "last year we were advising holidaymakers to head east to Warsaw, Budapest and Prague for the lowest-priced highbrow break. Now Dublin has leapfrogged all three and looks a great bargain".
