An outbreak of flu has caused visiting restrictions at St James's Hospital in Dublin.

The hospital is asking friends and family of patients to defer all non-essential visits this week.

No children will be admitted and only one visitor will be allowed at a time.

The hospital says certain wards may need to be closed to all except specially approved compassionate visiting.

The emergency department remains open - but people with flu-like symptoms are asked to attend their GP.
